Kuiphuis Crane Rental acquires Van Marwijk Crane Rental in Zoeterwoude

Kuiphuis Kraanverhuur, a specialist in vertical transport, acquired the family-owned business Van Marwijk Kraanverhuur in Zoeterwoude effective April 1, 2026. With this strategic acquisition, Kuiphuis is strengthening its position in the western Netherlands and significantly expanding its services and customer base.

The acquisition is in line with Kuiphuis’s growth strategy, as the company has invested heavily in innovation, sustainability, and nationwide coverage in recent years. Van Marwijk, founded in 1941, started out as a taxi company and later transitioned into a garage business. Its first recovery operations soon followed (1960). In 1965, the first crane was purchased to support truck recovery operations, and at the same time, the first contractors and construction companies began calling for lifting services. Van Marwijk Crane Rental began in 1965 and has been a trusted name in South Holland for decades, known for its craftsmanship, reliability, and personal approach.

A special history
It is a special moment for both owners that their companies have now found each other.
History shows that a tragic event from the past deeply affected the families. On December 22, 1982, a charter plane carrying Dutch passengers crashed near Uchon in Burgundy (France). Among the victims were H. J. Kuiphuis (58) and his son H. A. Kuiphuis (18), as well as J. L. van Marwijk (35) and H. B. van Marwijk (29) from Zoeterwoude. All passengers were killed in the crash when the aircraft flew into a hill in thick fog.

As a result, both families lost loved ones— a father and son at Kuiphuis, and two brothers at Van Marwijk —which left a deep mark on their communities and the companies themselves. Despite this heavy legacy, which is still felt today, both current owners are proud of what has been achieved and how far their organizations have come.
