‍Kuiphuis Crane Rental Acquires Van Marwijk Crane Rental from Zoeterwoude

Kuiphuis Crane Rental, a specialist in vertical transport, has acquired the family business Van Marwijk Crane Rental from Zoeterwoude as of April 1, 2026. With this strategic acquisition, Kuiphuis strengthens its position in the West Netherlands region and significantly expands its services and customer base.

The acquisition aligns with Kuiphuis's growth strategy, which has heavily invested in innovation, sustainability, and national coverage in recent years. Van Marwijk, founded in 1941, started as a taxi company and then transitioned into a garage business. The first recovery activities quickly followed (1960). In 1965, the first crane was purchased for the recovery of trucks, while simultaneously, the first contractors and construction companies called for lifting work. Van Marwijk Crane Rental started in 1965 and has been a trusted name in South Holland for decades, known for its craftsmanship, reliability, and personal approach.

Special history
It is a special convergence for both owners that their companies have now found each other.
History shows that a tragic moment from the past deeply affected the families. On December 22, 1982, a charter plane carrying Dutch passengers crashed near Uchon in Burgundy (France). Among the victims were H. J. Kuiphuis (58) and son H. A. Kuiphuis (18), as well as J. L. van Marwijk (35) and H. B. van Marwijk (29) from Zoeterwoude. All occupants died in that crash when the aircraft flew into a hill in dense fog.

Both families consequently lost loved ones – father and son at Kuiphuis, and two brothers at Van Marwijk – leaving deep traces within their communities and the companies themselves. Despite this heavy legacy, which is still felt, both current owners are proud of what has now been achieved and how far their organizations have come.
